Description

With the Type XXI, Germany owned the world's most advanced submarine in early 1945. Numerous technical innovations allowed him to travel under water without restrictions, as the diesel engines sucked in the necessary fresh air through a special snorkel.

The line shape designed for underwater travel and three times the battery capacity resulted in the sensational 17 knots underwater speed. Other innovations included low-noise creep electric motors, highly sensitive tracking devices and 2 cm anti-aircraft turrets. The model provides an authentic insight into this groundbreaking submarine through the split left outer wall of the hull. Many rooms have been reproduced in great detail, including the diesel and electric motors. Insights into the command center and crew living quarters give a glimpse of life underwater. The emblem contains interior details and identification data for the U2540, which entered service on 24/02/1945. After a short training run, the U2540 was sunk by the crew in the Flensburg Fjord on 4 May 1945. Lifted again in 1957, it served the German Navy as a test boat for Wilhelm Bauer. Today, U2540 can be seen as a museum boat.
