In the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as in other armies of the world, the tasks of sapper units include conducting engineering reconnaissance of the area, equipping and removing minefields. Often they are forced to work ahead of their infantry, being at the very forefront of combat operations, as they pave the way, literally and figuratively. Dogs help sappers find explosive devices. The canine service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established in 2017, and with the outbreak of large-scale hostilities, the need for mine detection dogs has increased several times.
