Delays in the production of the first German combat tanks led to the use of the Panzerkampfwagen II. After successful operations in Poland and France at the start of World War II, it was also used in Russia and North Africa, although by then it was inferior to enemy tanks. The F version, further developed in 1941, had reinforced front and side armor and reached a speed of 40 km/h with a weight of 9.5 tons.
