1:48 Zvezda 4815 YAK-9 Soviet Fighter Plastic Model kit
The extended range Yak-9D fighter with the M-105PF engine was one of the most significant modifications of the Yak-9. The need for such a fighter arose when the Soviet troops began to make deep breakthroughs in the defense of the enemy, and during a rapid offensive there was a danger that the ground troops would be separated from the aircraft covering them. An increase in the flight range was achieved by placing four gas tanks of 480 kg. The oil reserve was increased to 48 kg, the flying weight increased to 3117 kg. Series production lasted from March 1943 to June 1946, 3,058 units were produced. The air combat experience showed that up to an altitude of 3500 m, the Yak-9D had an advantage over the Me-109G-2 and FW-190A-8 in turns, when about half of the fuel was used up , in a vertical maneuver.
