The M1 bazooka was first issued to US forces in November 1942 for Operation Torch, but the covert deployment failed because few soldiers had received instruction on how to use the device!

Despite these unfavorable beginnings, the bazooka grew during World War II into what General Eisenhower described as one of the four "Tools of Victory" who had won the war for the Allies. The M9 bazooka was introduced in the fall of 1943, but better performance was largely offset by the thicker armor on the German tanks. However, the bazooka could not only be used against tanks but was also very effective against enemy fortifications such as concrete bunkers. Perhaps one of the greatest awards for the bazooka was that it inspired Germany to create its own 8.8cm caliber Panzerschreck.
